Soccer boss launches fundraising campaign for girl who will never grow

WARRINGTON Town manager Shaun Reid has launched a fund-raising campaign to send a 15-year-old school girl, who suffers from a rare condition which means she will never grow, on a holiday of a life time.
Despite being in constant pain caused by Skeletal Dysplasia which has caused her bones to prematurely fuse, brave Georgia Rankin, who is only the size of an average 18 month old child, attends Great Sankey High School and dreams of being able to ride a horse again – pain free.
After hearing about Georgia through Allison Reid who works with Georgia on a daily basis, Shaun, who grew a moustache and beard for “Movember” to raise funds for men’s health, has decided to continue with fund-raising to help send the Georgia on a holiday of a life time.
He said: “I’m touched by how much Georgia has been and is still going through. The whole community wants to help her achieve her dream of being totally pain free and maybe even start horse riding.
“The money will be spent on a holiday for Georgia so she can experience something we often take for granted. With the funds raised she will go to Florida and visit Discovery Cove where she could swim with dolphins, this would be the best therapy ever!
Georgia’s mum Andrea said:” Skeletal Dysplasia basically means her bones have prematurely fused together meaning she will never grow.
“She suffers with chronic hip pain resulting in the need to use her electric wheelchair at all times. She recently underwent surgery to help improve her pain but unfortunately didn’t go to plan and is still suffering and requires morphine every 4 hours.
“She will require more surgery to remove the femoral head from her left hip and we don’t know if she will ever be able to stand or even take a few steps to get into her wheelchair again.
“She has been through so much in her life yet still smiles even though on the inside she feels like crying. She does amazingly well at school despite
feeling this way. Georgia’s dream is to be pain free and be able to start horse riding again which is something she really misses.”
