'Flu jabs still available for vulnerable

DOCTORS in Warrington still have supplies of the anti-flu vaccine – and there are still vulnerable people in the town who have not been for their free flu jab.
GPs are urging people to take advantage of the service and get their jab as soon as possible.
Dr Anita Malkhandi, clinical lead for integrated care at Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Getting vaccinated only takes a moment but it’s very important.
“We still have stocks of flu vaccines – I’m urging people to take advantage of this free chance to protect yourself this winter.”
NHS England wants 75 per cent of at-risk adults under 65 to get the flu jab. However the English average uptake was only 51 per cent last year, and 45 per cent in Warrington.
The potential complications of flu can include bacterial chest infections, pneumonia, and meningitis.
Dr Malkhandi, also a GP at 4 Seasons in Orford Jubilee Hub, said: “Almost 800 people nationally were admitted to intensive care with complications from flu last year.
“And every winter hundreds of thousands of people see their GP and tens of thousands are hospitalised because of flu.”
People entitled to a free flu jab include those aged 65 or over, pregnant women, people with serious medical conditions, people living in a long-stay residential care home, those receiving a carer’s allowance and health and social care workers with direct contact with patients.
