Competition win for Fox Wood School

PUPILS from Fox Wood School in Birchwood can look forward to making a ‘Fantastic Journey’ in a ‘dream’ minibus they have helped decorate after winning a national art competition.
To be in with a chance of winning, students were invited to put pen or brush to paper and design, draw or paint a picture of their dream destination and the fantasy bus that would get them there – whether that be to outer space, a pirate island or the centre of the earth.
The entry from the Chatfield Drive based school for children with special needs was selected from over 900 entrants nationwide, in the contest organised by Burnt Tree Vehicle Hire to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Karen Nicholls, head teacher at Fox Wood School, said: “The pupils are absolutely delighted to have won the competition. They have been looking forward to seeing the minibus and even more so to be going on their own ‘Fantastic Journey’.
“For our journey we have chosen to go to a variety of places including a safari park, zoo and aquarium. It was an exciting and interesting competition to be involved with and we thank Burnt Tree for choosing our entry as the winner.”
The entry has been reproduced in a design that has been wrapped around a state-of-the-art 16-seat accessible minibus.
The vehicle has been supplied to the school free of charge for two weeks in addition to a financial contribution to take students on their very own fantastic journey.
Simon Cassidy, General Manager of Burnt Tree’s accessible minibus division, said: “We were overwhelmed by the fantastic response. The quality of entries was high in every case, which made it an extremely tough decision for the judges who included our own employees, but Fox Wood School’s entry stood out for its colour and sense of fun.”
