Zac returns to recreate William Beamont

A STUDENT from Orford recreated the life of William Beamont during a dramatic piece for the Contemporary Arts Festival ’13.
Zac Hancock, 18, is currently at Falmouth University studying for a degree in Creative Events Management, having gained a triple distinction in Performing Arts (Acting) at Warrington Collegiate in July, and made the journey up north to take part in the Festival.
His piece, ‘Who’, a short dramatic piece inspired by DV8 and Lloyd Newson, was originally performed as part of Trash, a series of site-specific, cutting-edge performances that delighted and amazed theatre goers at the Pyramid Arts Centre in April earlier this year. It so inspired Janey Moran from Culture Warrington that she immediately asked Zac to recreate it for the Contemporary Arts Festival in November.
Janey said: “Zac is obviously a very confident, talented young man; he has also shown a high level of enthusiasm and passion to develop and create a positive new piece of work.”
Zac worked with current Performing Arts students to recreate “Who” for two performances for CAF ’13 including one on Bridge Street.
He said: “‘Who’ is a new, modern piece based on the life of William Beamont. I chose the subject because I was a pupil at William Beamont High School (now Beamont Collegiate Academy).
“It is so completely different to the classic front-on stage experience. It was a great experience to see it selected to feature in the Contemporary Arts Festival.
“You could tell the audience was captured and really into the performance, with even some essences of unintended laughter. The best feeling was when I heard the crowd applaud, as it was so loud, filling me with a great feeling of accomplishment.”
