Stay safe during festive fun – new campaign

THE council is to launch a campaign to promote safe fun in Warrington in the run-up to Christmas.
The “Stay Safe” campaign will see adverts in the community and key night-life areas, on telephone boxes and bus shelters and in local bars, promoting the message: “While you’re having fun, stay safe”.
The council’s executive board member for health and wellbeing, Cllr Pat Wright, said: “We want everyone to have a great time, and our ‘Stay Safe’ campaign focuses on making sure people are safe while they’re having fun.
“It’s common sense but it’s worth reminding people of some simple things, like making sure your mobile phone’s fully charged before you go out, and planning in advance how you’re getting home – and of course remember not to get into unmarked taxis.
“And if one of your friends has had too much to drink, take them home to make sure they’re safe.”
Warrington’s director of public health, Dr Rita Robertson added: “If we stay within our limits there’s no danger of letting too much alcohol spoil a good night out.”
The “Stay Safe” campaign has been developed by the council’s Drugs and Alcohol Action Team working closely with the youth service, the young people’s alcohol team and young people’s sexual health services, and in consultation with owners and managers of local bars, alcohol retailers and the local Pubwatch group.
Young people from Birchwood, Orford and Latchford youth groups have been involved in the development of the key messages.
