A RISE in the number of thefts of high value pedal cycles and other property in the Woolston area is worrying the parish council.
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) presented a report to the council, detailing the thefts – mainly from sheds, garages and gardens.
As a result, the council decided to raise awareness of the problem, to work with the police and to assist residents where possible.
Council chairman Cllr Ian Johnson said: “The parish council and the local PCSOs will work with the borough council’s Stronger Together team for the North East area and assist in distributing details of items that can assist local people in protecting their property and offering advice.
“The Safe & Secure Scheme, operated by the Stronger Together team offer items at cost price.”
He encouraged people to call the team on 01925 815468.
Security items such as window shock alarms £1.95, door chains £1.75, door chain mirrors £0.95, window shock alarms £1.95, personal/handbag/keyring panic alarm £2.10 and wrist alarms ideal for joggers and walkers £2.20 are available for purchase.
The team are based at the Greenwood Community Centre, Orford at present, but will be relocating to the Fearnhead Community and Youth Centre on Insall Road, Padgate in the New Year.
