Sign up to be a digital champion

THIS Friday is the last day to sign up as one of Warrington’s “Digital Champions.”
More than 50 people have already signed up – but more are needed to help train the 19,000 local people who don’t have internet access or don’t have basic computer skills.
A local partnership has been recruiting volunteer “digital Champions” over the last month.
They will be fully trained to help residents boost their computer literacy and enable them to make the most of the web.
Next Tuesday, November 27, there will be an information evening at The Gateway, from 6-8pm when people can find out more about the scheme after they have signed up.
Cllr Hitesh Patel, (pictured) the borough council’s lead member for personnel and communications, said: “This is a great project to get involved with and although dozens of people have already signed up, we still need more! At the information evening there will be chance to find out more about the role and what it will mean for you as an individual.
“There will also be staff on hand to answer any questions you may have about this exciting new venture.
“You don’t need to be an internet expert to get involved. Volunteers will receive full training and support and you only need to commit to a minimum of five hours between January and May 2014.”
People can sign up now at www.warringtonva.org.uk
The scheme is being run by a group of agencies in Warrington, including the council, Golden Gates Housing Trust, LiveWire and Warrington Voluntary Action, in partnership with digital charity Go ON UK.
