REPRESENTATIVES of the Cheshire Community Covenant met at Warrington Town Hall to see how local councils and their partners can help serving and former members of Her Majesty’s forces.
The Cheshire Community Covenant was established in 2012, committing the local military and civilian authorities to work together more closely in support of serving and ex-military personnel and their families.
Representatives of the Cheshire local authorities, the armed forces and other partner organisations meet at intervals to review progress in supporting veterans who need help with housing, employment, education and health issues.
The meeting was chaired by Warrington Borough Council board member Cllr David Keane, who said: “We’re immensely proud of our armed forces, and we recognise the difficulties facing their members and former members, not least as they make the transition from military to civilian life. The Cheshire Community Covenant includes a series of pledges on housing, employment and benefits, education, health and wellbeing intended to help address these issues.
“At the meeting, all partners updated on their progress over the last year. It was great to see some real changes in policy and practice to meet the needs of veterans returning to civilian life and great to hear from our armed forces partners on the impact these changes have made and continue to make.”
Cllr Keane concluded: “Cheshire enjoys a strong and focused partnership and Warrington Borough Council were pleased to lead today.”
