ANGRY residents have lost a battle to block proposals for six houses on “green” land near their homes at Warrington.
The borough council’s planning committee has given the go-ahead for the homes off Stockdale Drive, Great Sankey.
Members of the committee visited the site before reaching their decision.
Nearby residents, backed by local councillor Keith Gleave, mounted strenuous opposition to the plans on the grounds there would be a loss of
green, open space, a neighbouring house would be overlooked, the plot was too small and the scheme would result in traffic and parking problems.
Cllr Gleave argued that with many other houses already in the pipeline in the area, local schools would be overcrowded and there would be pressure on other local services.
It would also result in the loss of a green open space in a well-developed area.
The committee was told the plan had originally been for seven three-storey houses, but one had been deleted from the scheme.
Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved. They said the site was overgrown and unmanaged with no public access.
Perimeter fencing made it inaccessible and it had insignificant value as an amenity space.
