MOTORISTS from Warrington, planning to leave town heading south on the M6 today are being advised by police to seek another route.
Both carriageways of the motorway between Knutsford and Middlewich have been closed as a result of a collision.
Huge tail backs of traffic have built up.
Police were called to the motorway, between junctions 18 and 19, after reports of a red Mini on its roof.
Emergency services are at the scene but it is not known how long the motorway will be closed and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
Fire and rescue crews released two women from the overturned car and they were taken to hospital by air ambulance.
Later, police said some lanes of the motorway had re-opened to traffic but that there was still heavy congestion and motorists would be well advised to find alternative routes.
