A new hot meal service is being launched at Warrington Youth Club, thanks to a donation of £530 raised by Warrington solicitors Forshaws Davies Ridgway (FDR) who organised a charity golf day.
Youth club chief executive Dave McNicholl says the money will be used to pump prime the new service, enabling youngsters attending after-school and evening sessions at the Peace Centre to eat a cheap, hot, healthy meal before returning home.
FDR conveyancing partner Tim Jordan, who is a trustee of the youth club and commercial partner Margaret Evans organised the charity golf day in Delamere for the firm’s clients and contacts.
Tim said: “Warrington Youth Club does an amazing job for local youngsters and I’m delighted the firm has agreed to make it one of our nominated charities. The scale of the club’s operation has grown enormously in recent years and I’m pleased our donation is going to help set up this much-needed meal service.”
The club is open term-time Monday-Thursday, 3pm – 9pm, and offers a safe and stimulating environment for children after-school, charging only 50p per session. Equipped with skate park, computers, table tennis and sports equipment, it provides a wide range of activities from art and IT to homework clubs and mentoring support programmes. It also runs a range of holiday clubs and activities.
Each month an average of 2,000 young people, aged 7 – 16 years, from across Warrington, benefit from the Youth Club’s services.
Meanwhile a grateful Dave added: “Annual running costs are just over half a million pounds, so we rely very heavily on the support of Warrington businesses. It’s difficult to attract funding from grants, so the help we get from FDR and other local firms is vital in allowing us to meet those targets.”
