AN action-packed arts and crafts programme drew hundreds of visitors to Hollins Park Art 2013 event.
Members of the public, patients and staff basked in the sun and the creative atmosphere at Hollins Park Hospital in Winwick – enjoying willow art; chainsaw sculpture and live music and poetry performances.
Hosted by 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust the event – now in its second year – offered a unique opportunity to appreciate works of art produced by people with mental ill-health.
It also marked the official opening of the Trust’s new 1km nature trail which circles the Hospital’s grounds.
Nick Rowe, Director of Corporate Services, cut the ribbon. He said: “Hollins Park is home to many different species of trees, plants and wildlife. We wanted to give patients, staff and visitors the opportunity to learn more about them while enjoying a relaxing stroll or push round our grounds.
‘We’ve added educational signs at points of interest and superb chainsaw sculptures by the terrifically talented PN Tree Services. Huge thanks to Dave Thompson, our Assistant Director of Inclusion and Partnerships for leading on this project, and to designer Nick White for all his hard work.”
Entries into the Trust’s Scarecrow Contest were displayed near the De La Mere Restaurant. The winning effort was made by patients from the Trust’s Byron Unit, which cares for people with learning disabilities.
The winner of the service user and staff photographic competition was Sarah Cross from Warrington. Second place went to Steven Darbyshire from Wigan.
Bernard Pilkington, Chairman of the Trust said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to come and support our patients and celebrate their artistic talents yesterday. I was impressed by the turnout and excellent programme of events. Congratulations to everyone involved on a truly superb effort.”
