Councillor wants action on estate

A COUNCILLLOR is calling for urgent action to improve a Warrington housing estate.
Cllr Steve Roberts, who represents Poplars and Hulme, believes improvement work on Grasmere Avenue should be made a priority.
He has held a consultation meeting with local residents and gone on a “walk-about” to identify areas of need.
As a result, he says the borough council must look seriously at how investment to carry out some of the most urgent work can be delivered.
He said: “Many residents on Grasmere Avenue have spoken to me about the problems which affect them locally.
“The condition of many footpaths on the estate have seriously deteriorated, and sites where garages used
to be located haven’t been looked after properly since the demolition.
“The result is parts of my ward looking uncared for, and in some cases dangerous.
“One resident told me she suffered a fall because of the badly-damaged surface leading to her home.
“That is why I believe that the council should look seriously at providing investment for Grasmere Avenue, and make it a priority for the future.
“We would like to see upgrades and resurfacing to many of
the footpaths on the estate, and better street lighting around people’s homes to reduce the risk of crime and anti-social behaviour.
“I will be making a case to the council over the coming months and pressing for the areas most in need to be moved up the queue.”
