MP hits out at Lib Dems

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has hit out at the Lib Dems following their conference by claiming that without the Lib Dems, the Tories would be powerless in Government.
She said leader Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats had tried to distance themselves from the Conservatives and attempted to defend their record in government.
Ms Jones (pictured) said: “They have told us that they have held the Tories back, rather than propped them up. But the truth is that without the Lib Dems, the Tories wouldn’t be in government at all.
“However much they try to distance themselves from each other, the Tories and the Lib Dems have the same record.
“They share responsibility for making life harder, not easier, for ordinary people – with prices rising faster than wages, the slowest recovery for 100 years, and a million young people out of work.”
The MP said at a time when trust in politics was at a low, the Government had decided to restrict the one part of politics such as charities campaigns, fair work conditions and NHS campaigns that were actually doing positive things for politics.
“Last week in House of Commons, the Lib Dems had a chance to stand up for local charities.
“Instead they decided to once again stand side by side with the Tories and decided to gag local charities up and down the country. Not a single Lib Dem stood up for hard working charities, yet 11 Tories and almost all of the smaller parties did.
“By backing a top rate of tax cut and giving 13,000 millionaires a tax give away worth an average of £100,000, it’s no wonder people think you can’t trust a word Nick Clegg says.
“He and the Liberal Democrats have broken promise after promise. They have promised to scrap tuition fees – then helped the Tories to treble them to £9,000. They warned of a Tory VAT rise – then helped the Tories to introduce it.
“They pledged 3,000 more police – then helped the Tories to cut over 15,000 police officers.”
