WARRINGTON Town Chief Executive Richard Sutton is celebrating after completing the ultimate endurance challenge with his brother and nephew.
Richard, aged 46, older brother Karl,54, and his son Tony 27, all successfully completed the Paras 10 endurance challenge at Catterick, helping raise funds for charity.
Richard completed the 10 mile endurance challenge carrying 35lbs over 10 miles of undulating military land in one hour 59 minutes, just nine minutes outside the Parachute Regiment entry time. Karl completed in 2 hours 7 minutes and Tony in 2 hours 3 minutes.
The event is the same test as the paras endurance entry test which trainees do 16 weeks training for and then have to complete in 1hour 50mins.
Richard said: “Despite a few monster blisters and a lost toe nail I finished the course just outside the regiment entry time. I was disappointed in the
immediate aftermath but soon got back a sense of perspective as there were some real heroes out there including competitors who had lost limbs in
Afghanistan who completed the course and many people who were running in aid of fallen soldiers.”
The event is managed by the Parachute Regiment Charity and serving soldiers of the Parachute Regiment with the primary aim of raising funds for The Parachute Regiment Charity whilst providing a challenging and enjoyable event.
Richard added: “I’ll have to head back up to Catterick next year to try and crack that regiment entry time abut in the meantime if anyone can spare a pound or two for Willowbrook Hospice it would be greatly appreciated.”
Willowbrook is an independent charity covering St Helens and Knowsley, which aims to enhance the quality of life, and relieve the suffering of patients with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing Specialist Palliative Care for those in need and support for their carers.
