A NEW group is to be formed at Warrington to tackle the problems of homelessness in the borough.
The Homelessness Commission will be launched on October 7 with members of health, housing, police, business, etc., organisations invited to the launch event, along with the borough council.
Terms of reference and objectives of the commission will be agreed at the meeting, together with timescales for a final report and recommendations.
An exercise is already taking place to identify stakeholders such as providers, commissioners, the housing sector, young people, homeless adults and families, town centre businesses and councillors and expert witnesses. A process of intensive engagement will take place during October through to early December.
Draft objectives include a review of current levels of housing need in Warrington and the current approach to responding to that need, a study of practices elsewhere focussing on lessons learned from innovative approaches to preventing homelessness and supporting those at risk or in need.
A progress report on the initiative will be given to the council’s Protecting the Most Vulnerable Policy Committee on Wednesday.
