THERE is now just over a week to go until the Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon and event organisers and warrington worldwide have teamed up to give runners and spectators the inside track of the race that starts and finishes at Victoria Park next Sunday, September 8.
Title Sponsors Spire Healthcare will have 25 runners participating in the English Half Marathon.
Chris Campney who works at the Spire Cheshire Hospital in Stretton, Warrington is taking on the challenge of the 13.1 miles all in support of her husband Nick who has bowel cancer. Chris is looking to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK.
Chris said: “I have run just one other half marathon before, with my husband Nick, when we ran together in the “Great North Run” in 2011. This was after Nick was diagnosed and had his first Bowel Cancer op. We have now had 2 further sets of Chemo and radio therapy, a further major op last July and this last 6 months, Intravenous Chemo. We are now living on borrowed time, but at the moment, enjoying life together greatly.”
Just like many other runners, training has been tough but the personal challenge has spurred Chris on. She added : “I am very much like Nick and enjoy a challenge! I am still training hard in my final week of training, to ensure I do the 13 plus miles on the day.”
The Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon will raise tens of thousands of pounds for a variety of charities and Chris appreciates all the support her and Nick get.
