SOCIAL services staff at Warrington who support people with learning disabilities have been commended for their “dedication and commitment” by the borough council.
Cllr Pat Wright, the council’s lead member for health and wellbeing and adult services, visited Woolston Hub during Learning Disability Week, where a group of people with learning disabilities regularly meet to use the leisure facilities.
She said: “By providing specialist day services within community settings, we are naturally able to make full use of facilities such as swimming pools, gyms and other leisure activities.
“This helps us to provide meaningful opportunities which promote health and wellbeing. It also helps to encourage social inclusion.”
During her visit, Cllr Wright met with a reading group in Woolston Hub’s library and was able to discuss the leisure facilities with people who had been using the gym and the swimming pool.
Cllr Wright said: “Learning Disability Week only comes round once a year, but we need to remember that our employees provide this excellent service to an extremely high standard of professionalism day in, day out the whole year round.
“The dedication and commitment of Warrington Borough Council’s specialist day services staff are highly commendable.”
