Six months for rogue trader

A SIX-month jail sentence on a Warrington man for car clocking has sent a tough message to rogue traders in the town.
The borough council’s public protection team says rogue traders will not be tolerated in Warrington.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court to 10 counts of car clocking and was sent to prison for six months.
The court was told that between April and November last year he dishonestly sold cars and defrauded customers out of a total of £7,785.
The council was able to pursue the prosecution, following complaints by former customers to the public protection team, who swiftly carried out an investigation.
Cllr David Keane, the council’s lead member for environment and public protection, said: “The message is clear – rogue trading will not be tolerated.
“The council’s public protection team remains as vigilant as ever in terms of protecting our residents from rogue traders but also reducing the harm they can have on reputable businesses that do follow the law.
“We are able to proceed with cases like this thanks to important information from the public and long may it continue. There is also expert advice and support available for people who may have had dealings with a rogue trader, so people should not hesitate to get in touch.”
Anyone who wants to report information or needs advice should ring the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline, which is run in conjunction with Warrington and Halton Trading Standards.
The number is 08454 040506, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
