Happy Mondays wow Warrington

MORE than two thousand Happy Mondays’ fans packed into Golden Square to see the indie legends headline the first night of Warrington Music Festival 2013.
The Salford collective played in the Old Market Place at Golden Square as the original line-up joined each other on stage for one of the first times in 19 years.
The hour and a half set was full of hits including Kinky Afro and of course the band’s anthem Step On. The free gig was part of the band’s 25th anniversary tour which they reunited for earlier this year.
Some fans travelled from all across the region to the gig with others happy to see the band in their home town.
Liz Brinksman from Warrington said: “We come to the festival every year and this year it was great to see such a big act headline Warrington Music Festival. We really enjoyed Happy Mondays, we’re big fans and would have paid for a
ticket so the fact it was a free gig was a bonus”.
Happy Mondays’ headline slot kicked off a big weekend of music in Warrington with more than 85 bands playing over seven different stages during the three day festival.
Chris Persoglio, Festival Organiser said:
“The atmosphere was fantastic last night, it looked like everyone really enjoyed themselves. Happy Mondays kicked off the festival in style and set the stage for some great local bands that we’ve got performing over the course of the weekend”.
