Scouts sleep in cardboard boxes

SCOUTS, Cubs and Beavers at Culcheth raised £2,000 for a charity for the homeless – by sleeping a night in cardboard boxes.
Members of the 19th Warrington Culcheth Methodist Scout Group took part in the event, which was part of a fun-packed weekend of canoeing, kayaking, cooking on open fires, archery, pioneering and songs around the camp fire.
The Beavers were inside a building, the Cubs in a large marquee and the Scouts and Leaders were outside and open to the elements.
But all spent the night in cardboard boxes.
A light shower overnight did little to dampen spirits!
Food was served in “soup kitchen” style with queues and few luxuries. However no one went hungry and all had a great time.
The event raised money for Compassion in Action – a Leigh based charity that helps the homeless – and Scout Group funds.
In addition tinned and other food was provided to the Culcheth Methodist Church food bank collection service by parents of children attending the camp.
