WARRINGTON Wolves held a training session at local amateur club Burtonwood Bulldogs as part of their “One Community” programme.
The programme aims to strengthen the community game by working together to create a stronger environment to play and develop rugby league, and the Bulldogs are one of six clubs signed up, along with Latchford, Woolston, Rylands, Crosfields and Culcheth.
Peter McConnell from Burtonwood Bulldogs said: “We were proud to host a training session for the Warrington Wolves. The players and staff from the Wolves were a credit to the club, spending time with the children and families, both before and after their session.
“Grassroots rugby starts at community club level and the chance to be up-close and personal with their sporting heroes inspires the children to continue playing and encourages them to tell their friends and bring more children into the sport. We cannot thank the Wolves enough for this event and hope there will many more in the future.”
The squad held their on-field training session at the facility before interacting with the visiting supporters for photographs and autographs.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith added: “It’s our duty to do activities and promote the game within our own community. We are certainly doing that by visiting all our local clubs throughout the year by having training sessions at their facilities and signing days.
“The players have been excellent so far in their approach to participating and training in the community and we will continue to do so and aim to in the years come.”
