A 24-year-old nurse from Warrington is to trek a 100km stretch of the Great Wall of China to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Rebecca Quinn, from Cinnamon Brow, a nurse at Warrington Hospital, hopes to raise more than £2,000 through the trek, plus running the Great Manchester 10k and other races this year.
Her Great China Wall trek will be from October 19-28.
She said “I decided to trek the Great Wall of China for the Alzheimer’s Society after becoming a dementia link nurse on my ward and participating in extra study and research around the subject.
“Many of our patients have dementia and I wanted to support a charity that provides so much support and information for people with dementia, their families and those of us that work with people with dementia.”
Her trek will allow time to soak up the history of the Great Wall and also take her off the beaten track to catch a glimpse of village life.”
Rebecca said: “The Great Wall of China has to be one of the top 20 journeys of a lifetime and I’m training pretty hard for the 100 km trek. I have recently joined two running groups, Plodders and Run Buddy, who are both really helping push me to limits I didn’t even know I could reach.
“It will be the first time I have visited China or done anything quite as adventurous as this, so I’m really excited about it all.”
Rebecca will join a group of all ages and from all backgrounds on the trek.
The trip starts and finishes in Beijing, with time for sightseeing
included in the schedule.
Rebecca will begin the trek in Huangyaguan, a beautiful valley in the Yanshan mountains, moving on towards Juyongguan over a period of six days. She will journey through breathtaking landscapes, taking in spectacular views in this beautiful part of the world.

  1. Well done, good luck. Just want to add that the trip is being funded by herself, so all money raised goes directly to the charity. Keep up the good work.
