Mum's £500 boost for charity

A supportive parent from Warrington is helping local families living with autism by making a generous donation as part of her employer’s staff volunteer grants programme.
Mother-of-one Pamela Skinner, works in the Warrington branch of Yorkshire Bank and applied for the grant earlier this year for the Warrington branch of the National Autistic Society.
This is an organisation which she helped set up which offers support and advice to families with children who have a condition in the autistic spectrum.
Ms Skinner is making a £500 donation which will go towards running specialist courses for parents, as well as professionals, providing information about diagnosis, advice about what to expect and practical tips for coping with the condition.
She helped set up the charity in the town after her son, Sam, was diagnosed with autism when he was two.
She said: “We are quite a small organisation but our service is providing vital support for families all across Warrington.
“It’s so important that families have the support they need, even if that’s purely a group of similar people to share any questions or concerns with.
“Our group relies on donations to continue providing support sessions as well as a range of activities for children to take part in such as trampolining. The more funds we can raise, the more people we can help so this really does make a difference.”
Yorkshire Bank’s staff volunteer grants programme funds charitable initiatives that its employees are passionate about.
This includes local charities or not-for-profit organisations such as schools, brownies, scouts or sports groups. The money helps the groups continue their work in the local community.
