Pub's fundraiser for heroes

A WARRINGTON pub is to stage a military themed fundraiser to support Help for Heroes.
The Memphis Belle will be celebrating Armed Forces Day with a host of entertainment and activities for all the family.
On Saturday June 29, the charity weekend kicks off with two live singers. The duo, aptly named The Forces Sweethearts, will be on stage from 8.30pm, singing the night away with sounds that hark back to the times when Warrington was home to a US Army Air Force base, as well as more recent tunes.
On Sunday June 30, the pub will become a tribute to the history of the area, with American military vehicles, plus a GI Elvis to welcome customers to the pub. There will also be a balloon artist to entertain the kids and opportunity to enjoy the pub’s fresh new look and menu.
All the events and attractions over the weekend are free to attend, and all money raised from donations will go to Help for Heroes to support wounded service personnel.
Sheila Smith, general manager at the pub said: “Warrington was home to the largest US Army Air Force base during World War II so it is only right that we mark Armed Forces Day in GI style.
“Celebrities such as Humphrey Bogart and Bob Hope entertained service men and women here in the 40s and we are hoping to evoke the spirit of the period and raise vital funds for such an important charity.”
