FIVE pupils from Warrington’s Sir Thomas Boteler High School were among 100 schoolchildren from around the country to meet Prime Minister David Cameron to call for action to tackle global hunger.
The youngsters were joined by Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign supporter David Walliams.
Boteler pupils involved were Lucy Meakin, Jake Singleton-Bennike, Dominique Haughton, Erica Griffiths and Ozan Gulan.
Sir Thomas Boteler was the only school who got to hand the Prime Minister the 30,000 signature petition.
Each pupil who attended presented Mr Cameron with specially crafted plates representing more than 30,000 plates that have been decorated by schoolchildren across the UK, ahead of the G8 meeting in Northern Ireland.
David Walliams joined the children to show the Prime Minister that they are calling for action to tackle the global hunger crisis that is responsible for almost half of child deaths every year.
Lucy Meakin, 15, said: “It was a great experience. This was a really good opportunity for us to make our point to the Prime Minister directly. He seemed very passionate about the issue of making sure that children everywhere have enough food.”
This year pupils from Sir Thomas Boteler’s Tyldesley and Priestly houses have been working on a number of charity activities. So far they have run several events and raised a phenomenal amount of money for different charities.
The different charities Boteler’s Charities Action Team have assisted are: Children in Need £600; Comic Relief £778.99; NSPCC £285.30; RSPCA £5; Help for Heroes £273.13; Warrington and Halton Charitable trust £61.65; El Shaddai £22.04; Guide dogs £13.65; St Rocco’s £57.91; Christian Aid £20.11.
