WARRINGTON Museum and Art Gallery has been voted a top performing attraction by the users of the world’s largest travel website.
TripAdvisor has issued a certificate of excellence to the museum and art gallery – an award only given to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on the website.
Only the top-performing 10 per cent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.
To qualify for the certificate, venues must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor, and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.
Visitors to the museum praised the knowledgeable and helpful staff and the quality of the activities and displays.
The museum has also been recognised as the best performing venue at the annual Museum Heritage Awards.
In the 10-year history of the awards, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery currently holds the record for greatest number of nominations and outright wins, including its award in 2009 for best project on a limited budget.
Janice Hayes, principal museum manager said: “We are delighted to receive the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence. This is a great endorsement by our visitors, and we’d like to thank them for helping us win this award. The feedback we have received from them is very encouraging. The museum is going from strength to strength and we’re looking forward to launching our brand new Cabinet of Curiosities gallery in early 2014.”
