ARTS, heritage and entertainment organisation Culture Warrington is one year old this month.
The organisation will celebrate its birthday on Saturday, May 18 and will mark the occasion with a special party jam-packed with fun activities for all the family at 12-2pm at the Pyramid Arts Centre.
Activities will include African drumming, local music, cupcake decoration, Rugby League World Cup, arts and craft activities and a photographic exhibition.
The charitable trust was established in May last year and comprises entertainment and arts venues Pyramid and Parr Hall as well as Warrington Museum and Art Gallery. The organisation also provides events and targeted projects across Warrington town centre.
Culture Warrington has had a hugely successful first year with highlights including, The Stone Roses performing their first gig in 16 years at Parr Hall, Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, the Pyramid’s 10th birthday and the Parr Hall being nominated for “Best Live Music Venue” at the Music Week Awards in London.
Curators from Warrington Museum and Art Gallery along with Warrington Borough Council put together a moving exhibition to commemorate 20 years since the Warrington IRA bombings in March, which was commended by people in the town.
The organisation is also dedicated to providing events for the community. The arts development team worked with more than 700 Warrington school children in December, to help them create lanterns so they could participate in the town’s annual Christmas lantern parade.
The events staged by Culture Warrington have seen an increase in the number of people visiting the town.
Between April last year and March this year, 187,125 people went through the doors at Pyramid and Parr Hall and 57,057 people visited Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
People attending the first birthday celebration can sign a giant birthday card.
