Gas cylinder in blaze

FIRE crews were mobilised after reports of a blaze involving a gas cylinder on the A574 Birchwood Expressway at Warrington.

Crews from Birchwood set up a 15 metre exclusion cordon and extinguished the blaze using a ground monitor and a hose reel jet.
Police controlled traffic on the expressway and there was considerable traffic congestion.
A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure the cylinder was sufficiently cooled to be safely removed.
In another incident, fire crews from Warrington were called to Parker Street, in the town centre, after a quantity of refuse was found ablaze.
A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire. Police were in attendance as it was suspected the fire had been started deliberately.
Fire crews were also called out to deal with a fire involving a stretch of hedgerow on Red Brow Lane, Daresbury. A hose reel jet was again used to put out the fire.
