Grappers aim to stay at the top

THE local cricket season starts on Saturday, April 20 – with top club Grappenhall looking forward to another stab at competition in the premier division of the Cheshire County Cricket League.
Former Lancashire batsman Richard Green is taking over captaincy of the 1st XI and will be looking to make sure “Grappers” stay in the top flight this time.
Last time they won promotion to the premier division it was for one season only!
There is also a local clash with neighbours Warrington in the counties T20 competition in early May.
The 1st XI has been boosted by the arrival of Australian Under-19 fast bowler Josh McClelland.
Josh has also represented Australia at school level as well as Queensland Under 19s and he will be a very good addition to the Grappenhall bowling attack.
The 2nd XI will again be led by veteran Mike Holden and will be looking to go one better than their second place finish and cup final defeat last season. The 3rd XI will be led by former 2nd XI player Rob Slater as he looks to bring on the next generation of players into the senior ranks.
The 1st XI open their Premier League campaign with a trip to the Wirral to face Oxton, while the 2nd XI host Middlewich.
There are some big fixtures at the Broad Laneclub over the coming season with all three teams playing their cricket at the highest level in Cheshire, and with some significant events happening off the field, with more information available soon, 2013 promises to be a very exciting year for the club and its supporters.
