MP attacks bedroom tax

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has made an angry attack on the government’s “Bedroom Tax” which she says will affect more than 2,000 families in the borough.
She said figures from the National Housing Federation reveal the number of local households that stand to lose an average of £728 per year.
According to the MP the Under Occupation Tax, better known as the Bedroom Tax, will result in 660,000 hard-hit households across Britain facing a significant cut in the support they receive to pay their rent. Two-thirds of these are home to disabled people.
Ms Jones (pictured) said: “David Cameron’s Bedroom Tax will hammer families in Warrington already struggling to make ends meet, and has the potential to cost local tax-payers a fortune in higher private rents and covering the cost of driving people out of their homes.”
She said the cuts in April, including reductions in support towards Council Tax and reductions in Tax Credits, will affect those who need help most in the current difficult times.
“Many of the households targeted by this vindictive Bedroom Tax are home to someone with a disability, a family member serving overseas in the armed forces and those with foster children. Yet at the same millionaires are getting a massive tax give away. How can that possibly be right?”
Warrington councillorsr Billy Lines-Rowlands and Chris Vobe recently launched a “Say No to Bedroom Tax!” campaign online via WarringtonLabour.com and Ms Jones urged people to join in.
