Pupils to learn about money

PUPILS in every school in Warrington will have the chance to learn more about money during the fifth annual My Money Week – thanks to a partnership between financial education charity pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group) and Barclays.
The aim of My Money Week, which will run from June 3 to 9, is to support teachers in Warrington in educating young people effectively about money through fun and engaging activities.
This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. The week will improve young people’s financial skills, knowledge and confidence through special lessons, activities, debates and a national competition for schoolchildren.
Teachers in Warrington will have access to a free My Money Week Activity Pack, developed by pfeg, full of creative and engaging financial resources and ideas for how to teach financial education to four to 19-year-olds.
It will also raise awareness of Barclays’ flagship UK community programme, Barclays Money Skills, and provide opportunities for Barclays employees to share their financial expertise and skills with young people in teacher-led activities in schools. In addition, this year will see extra resources targeted towards disadvantaged young people in both the school environment and the wider community.
Tracey Bleakley, pfeg chief executive, said: “I hope that every school in Warrington will seize the chance to get involved using our free support and resources. Financial education is absolutely essential if we are to give young people in Warrington the best possible start in life, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to be able to manage their money well.”
