A SPECIAL Olympic champion will be leading Warrington Disability Partnership’s Sponsored Swim this Saturday, March 2 from 4pm to 8pm.
Swimming champion Aden Walker, who has collected 246 medals and 41 trophies in special Olympic swimming, will be joining in the fun at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub.
Aden, 42, from Great Sankey, has won a variety of Sports Personality of the Year awards and last year carried the Olympic Torch during the official Relay. He described carrying the torch as “the best day of my life”. The torch will be displayed at the event.
The sponsored swim, supported by Livewire, is open to all ages and abilities and everyone is welcome. Set your own target or complete the 64 length challenge and receive a special T-shirt.
Children and adults who want to swim in a quieter area, or may not feel as confident, can complete their challenge in the Training Pool.
There is no minimum sponsorship and all money raised will go to supporting disabled people, their families and carers in the local area.

WDP are also organising a sponsored scuba dive at Great Sankey Leisure Centre on April 27.
WDP Chairman, Dave Thompson, will be joined by others in a 64 length underwater challenge. Dave broke his neck 20 years ago playing American football which has left him with the use of just one arm. He has raised thousands of pounds for charity by swimming a mile under water.
Any one new to scuba diving can take part in a ‘try–dive session’ for a minimum sponsorship of just £40. Equipment, training and support is provided by Sport Diver and Cheshire Scuba Academy.
