A MOVING exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing of Warrington is being planned.
“Commemorations and Celebration – A Journey of Reconciliation,” has been commissioned by Warrington Borough Council and The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation.
It has been created by staff at Warrington Museum and runs from Monday March 18 to Thursday April 18 at Pyramid Arts Centre in the Gallery on the top floor.
There will be a moving wallpaper projection that takes visitors on a journey through the events leading up to March 20, 1993, and the days and years afterwards.
Small touch screen tablets will allow visitors the opportunity to explore articles and features that document Warrington’s positive journey of reconciliation.
Deputy leader of the borough council Mike Hannon (pictured left) said: “This exhibition represents the whole ethos of what our commemorative events stand for which is to remember the devastating events of that day in 1993 but to also to celebrate all our achievements during the past 20 years.
“It also provides an opportunity for people to learn in more detail about what happened and all the positive community work that followed and I would encourage everyone to come along.”
Derek Dick, of Culture Warrington, said: “Putting this exhibition together has been an honour and by gathering and studying a large amount of archived material we ourselves have learned so much more about Warrington’s journey and so we hope that people will find viewing this exhibition to be a meaningful experience.”
Two events to mark the 20th anniversary are taking place on Saturday March 16.
A civic event led by the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Steve Wright will take place in Bridge Street between 12 noon and12.45pm. This will be followed by a celebratory event at The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation’s Peace Centre from 2pm to 5pm.
Residents are welcome to attend both events and more information is available on the council website at www.warrington.gov.uk/newsroom
