WARRINGTON Town had to settle for a share of the points in a 1-1 draw at boss Shaun Reid’s former club Prescot Cables.
On a pitch which was more like a ploughed field Warrington dominated much of the first half with Ciaran Kilheeney going close early on. Ash Ruane was next to go close but his shot hit a bobble and went over the bar.
Lee Parle and Andy Fowler combined well but could not break the deadlock as the latter hit the inside of upright with the ball bouncing out to safety. Before the half time whistle sounded, Murphy went close for the hosts but the two teams went in at the break locked at 0-0.
It was the hosts who eventually broke the deadlock against the run of play when Liam Dawson latched onto a long ball and poked the ball beyond Robertson to give Cables a 1-0 lead.
With 20 minutes remaining, John Miles and Jon Newby replaced Ruane and Mannix as Wire boss Reid looked to freshen things up.
Town drew level with 10 minutes to play as Miles pounced after Kilheeney’s initial shot was saved. Phil Mooney came into the action with just 5 minutes to go as Warrington pushed forward with Cables under a near constant goal mouth seige.
In added time, a barrage of Wire attacks saw Newby force a great stop from the Cables keeper while Kilheeney had a shot blocked again as the game finished all square.
Warrington’s next fixture is on the road again next Saturday (feb 23) they travel to fellow play off chasers Curzon Ashton in a 3:00pm kick off at the Tameside Stadium.
