A GROUP of 15 Warrington Collegiate students are travelling to Spain to gain experience in the country’s hospitality industry.
The Hospitality and Catering students have a three-week work placement in Granada. They will undertake all aspects of work in a typical holiday hotel, including front of house, food preparation, patisseries and confectionery, wine appreciation and Spanish language.
David Chapman, chef lecturer at the collegiate, said: “We realise the importance that international experience can make to a student’s career.
“Spain is one of the most widely visited countries within the EU. This will give students a taste of what it would be like to live and work in Spain, which may impact on the choices they make about their future .They will gain knowledge of Spanish culture and cuisine whilst developing additional skills which will contribute to their course and qualification.”
One of those travelling, Shannon Benson, 18, from Birchwood, said: “I’m thrilled that I’ve been given the opportunity to participate in this venture. I’m looking forward to learning about the Spanish hospitality and catering industry.
“In the hotel we’ll be doing everything from housekeeping and cooking to bar and restaurant service. I hope that this will lead to many exciting prospects in the near future.”
Before their trip the students completed a six-week preparation course on Spanish culture, cuisine and language.
