POLICE at Warrington are appealing for witnesses following an early morning raid at a newsagents’ shop.
A member of staff was threatened with a knife during the robbery at McColl’s in Albany Road, Lymm.
At about 6.05am on Wednesday (January 2) three men entered the shop, shortly after it had opened.
A member of staff was forced into a back office and threatened with a knife. The raiders then stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.
DC Matt Gagen said: “We take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and will do all we can to trace those responsible. The member of staff was left very shaken by the ordeal.
“We are carrying out a number of enquiries, including CCTV enquiries, and any relevant forensic enquiries and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward.
“We are also appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at that time and may have seen three men acting suspiciously or may have seen the offenders fleeing the scene.
“It is believed they fled down Albany Road towards Star Lane in a black Vauxhall Astra.”
One man was about 5ft 8 inches tall, of average build and in his mid-20s. He spoke with a Liverpool accent and was wearing black clothing with a scarf over his face.
The other two were wearing black clothing and black footwear.
