Lymm get bogged down!

EVEN ‘state of the art’ drainage could not cope with the amount of rainfall seen in recent weeks as Lymm got bogged down 6-20 to visitors Birkenhead Park.
The Beechwood billard table had become almost unplayable with underlying water. However the Head Groundsman, following an early 8.30 am pitch inspection, declared with some reluctance that the game could go ahead.
This good news afforded BHP to plan their game accordingly which they executed to perfection. Their excellent pick and drive game in the first half afforded them a15 points to 6 advantage by half time. Some uncharacteristic slack tackling by Lymm pretty much gifted the three unconverted tries, but two penalty’s from Nolan still kept Lymm in the game.
However despite some fantastic defence by Lymm in the second period, spiritedly led by Oaks, Brotherton and Adam Bray, and supported by the evergreen Sutton the Beechwood Boys simply could not get hold of the ball, and were pinned in their own half by their heavyweight opponents for ninety percent of the second 45 minutes, yet only conceded one further try.
So an early Christmas present for BHP, well deserved on the day which will surely encourage further their recent revival.
For a much changed Lymm XV through injuries and unavailability (Captain Higginson fractured cheekbone, Sam Mullarky serious shoulder, Olly Giles, Sion Williams and Peter Allen) the seasonal break will provide the opportunity to re gather resources, mend the injuries to lift the spirits for the second half of the season.
This Lymm team is still very young, witht he Birkenhead contest against an older more experienced outfit, all part of the learning curve and a totally different proposition in the conditions, to the comfortable victory experienced against the same opposition at the start of the season.
