Club of the year

MEMBERS of Lymm Golf Club are celebrating after winning the “Golf Club of the Year” title for the second year in succession.
Judges in the annual Club Mirror awards competition praised the club for its strong trade despite the harsh economic climate.
The club was praised for its efforts to pull in newcomers and welcome families throughout the year – wedding receptions, kids Christmas discos and Sunday lunches.
The club’s performance is largely down to club house manager Karen Fyfe and house chairman Iain Hebenton with the assistance of the house committee and a team of 26 staff.
Karen believes the venue’s whole offer is the key to its success.
She said: “While golf is at the heart of the club, we have been delighted to see the wedding, private party and summer balls trade really take off in 2012.
“We have worked hard to forge relationships with local schools and businesses which means we are already taking bookings for 2014. The excellent drinks menu we can provide courtesy of Marston’s ensures our customers get something a little different, particularly our changing cask ales.”
It was the 20th year of the Club Mirror awards and there were almost 1,000 entries in 26 categories.
The awards are open to a wide range of licensed facilities, ranging from social entertainment to sport and fitness.
