A WARRINGTON college has reached the finals of a national robotics competition for the second year running.
Earlier this year, Barrow Hall College, Great Sankey qualified for the finals of the VEX Robotics contest – and went on to become national champions.
Now they have victorious again in the regional stage of the competition and will go on to defend their title in the national finals next year.
Barrow Hall’s team was challenged to design and build a robot that could move beanbags into different height and shaped goes on a 12ft X 12ft field.
They had to work not only against the clock but also against teams from other secondary schools and sixth forms across the North West.
Design and Technology Teacher Lee Welsh said: “I’m so proud of the students in gaining a place at the VEX National Finals.
“After the high of being national champions at the beginning of the year they
have worked really hard in building a new robot and had a fantastic time at the competition.
“It feels great to be able to give the students a project that challenges not only their design skills but their whole range of science, engineering and maths abilities.”
The national finals will take place at The Big Bang Fair in London on March 15 and 16. The winner will have the opportunity to compete at the World Championships the following month.
Last time, Barrow Hall missed out on the World Championships because of funding difficulties and if they were successful again they are hoping for financial support from local businesses or other well-wishers.
