Travellers ask council for bins

ANGRY residents called in council chiefs at Warrington after a large group of travellers set up camp at the side of a busy road.
But when council officers visited the site, the travellers asked them to supply them with bins!
Anything up to 20 vehicles, including caravans, arrived at the side of Lumb Brook Road, Appleton on Tuesday evening.
Cllr Paul Kennedy was one member of the council to contact officers.
He said: “This is very worrying, as this is the third encampment in Warrington in as many weeks.”
“The council has recently set up to identify and deliver a transit site, as well as a number of permanent sites within the borough to meet statutory requirements and, hopefully, bring an end to gypsy/traveller chaos.”
A council spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of this encampment overnight and our highways team is in the process of working with partner agencies to allow the serving of eviction notices, following all the required checks.”
Later, police and council officers visited the site and spoke to the travellers. At that time there were eight caravans there.
The travellers confirmed they had moved from Orion Boulevarde, Whittle Hall, said they would stay on the site as long as possible. They asked the council to provide them with bins.
Bailiffs have been instructed to serve a “direction to leave” notice later today.

  1. Perhaps they should be asking where they need to go to pay council tax or how to contact HMRC to ensure they make a proper contribution.

(Mind you, you have to admire their cheek!)

  2. hmmm the Third encampment in as many weeks………..??

I check this web site out most days Why have we not heard of these other camps ……………wrong post code….??

Lord forbid the Travellers dare enter Lymm eh………??

  3. Tarporley Road, Stretton & Silver Lane, Croft. Indeed reading the article it is not 3 but 4 encampments. I am not aware of any in Lymm! To clarify a point made in the article, I am on the recently set up WBC Steering Group – Planning for Travellers.

  4. another taxpaying mug on

Any body bothered to find out if they pay council tax for the sevices they receive at the site they occupy at Walton? They hav’nt got planning permisssion so they don’t pay council tax like the rest of us mugs

  5. There should be no planning for travellers Paul. They should be forced to move on as soon as they stop. They contribute nothing to society and are just a bunch of free-loaders. If they want rights they should damned well pay for them like the rest of us have to instead of always trying it on. Instead of the council wasting resources on these people they should be using it to reduce the impact of government funding cuts which affect the people who actually pay their taxes……

  6. Looks like they have moved on from here, but they maybe the same group who have set up on Spark Hall Close, Stretton at about 19:15 last night. WBC and the police have been informed.
