A WOMAN has been subjected to a sex assault while walking through a Warrington park late at night.
The attack occurred in Brickfield Park, off Clegg Street, Warrington at about 11.15pm on Thursday, on July 26 and the incident involved a 46-year-old woman as she walked home after an evening with friends.
She was approached by an unknown man and sexually assaulted.
Afterwards, she went home and later reported the incident to police.
Inspector Debbie Dodd, of Cheshire Police’s dedicated rape unit, said: “The victim is currently receiving help and support from specialist officers.
“We are following up a number of lines of enquiry in a bid to trace the offender. These enquiries include forensic enquiries, house-to-house enquiries and CCTV enquiries.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or was in the area at the time and has seen anything significant or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.
“Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare, although I would urge people to remain vigilant when walking alone at night and maintain an awareness of your surroundings.”
The man involved is described as being of stocky build and was wearing a grey tracksuit top.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 on the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
