Wizards win was one of best

WARRINGTON Wizards’ assistant coach Paul Alcock said his side’s 30-22 victory at Kippax Knights was one of the best all season.
Alcock and fellow assistant coach Mike Grady took over from Nick Owen, as the Wizards’ head coach was forced to take time out due to personal reasons.
But the Wizards also went into the match with several absentees through injury, making the win even more crucial in the club’s hunt for a top two position heading into the play offs.
Alcock said: “I thought we pulled off one of our best away wins of the season against a very tough opponent.
“The first twenty minutes were evenly contested with both sides defending well then some of our plays came off and we started to take control of the game. Our defence was ferocious at times and I’m pleased to see the commitment the players are showing to one.
“I was very impressed with some of our returning players especially Mike Stout who shown his quality throughout in the middle, Dan Stubbs who is finding some great form at the moment with his go forward and defence and Ryan Jones who came up with several big plays in the game.”
Alcock said the side have gelled well together as the season has progressed, and every member of the squad is determined to go all the way to the Grand Final.
Alcock said: “We are a close knit group and that shows on the field. I was very happy with our approach to the game. We were eager coming into this and knew it was crucial to get the result if we wanted to maintain hopes of taking top spot.”
The Wizards face Huddersfield Underbank Rangers on Saturday, July 28. Kick off is 5pm, and will follow the Warrington Wolves v Bradford Bulls under 20s match at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards’ match will see second take on third in Conference Three, with a Wizards win possibly taking them five points clear of their rivals for a top two play off place.
Admission is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
