Wolves legends to present trophies

WOLVES legends will present the trophies at the finals of Warrington Secondary Schools rugby competition tomorrow (Thursday) at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Last year the finals were re-branded and an online vote to rename the Year 8, 9 and 10 trophies saw Wire legends John Bevan, Paul Cullen and Lee Briers honoured as their names were used for the trophies.
For this year’s finals all three will attend and present the trophies to the winning captains. The Year 7 Joe Boscow trophy will also be presented by an ex-Wolves player.
The first game kicks off at 4pm and Involves Great Sankey and William Beamont challenging for the Year 7 honours, following that the Year 8 John Bevan Trophy will be contested by Great Sankey and St Gregory’s. The Year 9 Paul Cullen Trophy starts at 6pm with Cardinal Newman looking to retain the trophy against Birchwood High School.
The last game of the evening the Year 10 Lee Briers trophy will kick off at 7.15pm and sees Cardinal Newman go head to head with William Beamont High School.
Alan Kilshaw, Warrington and Cheshire RL development manager, said:
“To have three of the players the trophies are named after in attendance will really add some more prestige to the event and it’s important that these players are honoured.
“This generation know all about Lee Briers and Paul Cullen but its important that they are aware of the club’s heritage and to have the year 8 trophy named after John Bevan and have him there on the night will make them aware of such past players.”
Gate 16 (situated opposite the Brian Bevan Statue) will be open from 3.30pm and a small charge of £3 for Adults and £1.50 for concessions will go towards the running of the event and towards youth development.
