Beauty spots in race to be best

TWO Warrington beauty spots – Risley Moss Local Nature Reserve and Walton Hall and Gardens – are in the race to become the region’s best.
People are being asked to vote for their favourite North Cheshire and Merseyside woodland as part of a new campaign from The Mersey Forest.
They can nominate and vote for their chosen local trees and woods on an interactive map at www.merseyforest.org.uk/vote Everyone who takes part will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to Chester Zoo.
Risley Moss is currently in second place out of more than 60 woodlands nominated across the region so far, with visitors praising it as “great for exploring with kids”, “very tranquil” and as “a place to become totally immersed and acquainted with nature – a form of therapy!”
The map also offers the chance to suggest places where more trees are needed, and how existing woodlands could be made better. The comments made will help shape The Mersey Forest Plan – the blueprint to create more woodlands and street trees.
Paul Nolan, director of The Mersey Forest, said: “More than 60 different woodlands have already been nominated as people’s favourite beauty spots, showing what a great range of places to explore we have in the local area.
“We’re also very keen to hear about places where people would like to see more trees planted, and we hope to make some of these ideas come true this winter.”
People can take part at www.merseyforest.org.uk/vote by Friday September 21.
