Scouts take on the challenge

YOUNGSTERS from the 3rd Warrington East Scouts joined in the annual Cheshire Hike and completed a range of challenges.
Teams of two Scouts or Guides arrived at the starting point early in the morning with all their personal kit and equipment, including a tent, cooking stove and food in a rucksack to carry over the two days.
They were given the route as a set of grid references and a map to plot their hike, using map reading, navigational skills and observation. Practical skills were tested at each checkpoint.
All participants were presented with a certificate and scarf at the end and awards went to the best team in each age group.
The youngsters hiked for about 18 miles carrying about 20 pounds in weight – and were placed 28th out of more than 90 teams.
