POLICE at Warrington are investigating after a car was virtually destroyed by fire during the night.
Fire crews rushed to the scene in Honister Avenue, Orford after reports of the blaze.
They found a fire had started in the engine compartment of the car, parked on the driveway of a house, and had enveloped the rest of the vehicle.
No-one was hurt and the blaze caused only minor damage to the front door of the house..
But the cause is suspicious and police are investigating.
DC Neil Radley said: “Fortunately no-one was injured as a result of the incident but the consequences could have potentially been far worse had the fire not been put out so quickly.
“A family was inside the property at the time and there was a real chance the fire could have spread.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, knows who is responsible, or has any information, which might assist with their enquiries, to get in touch.
“We are also appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and has seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or call anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
