SCOTTISH Poet Laureate Liz Lochhead dropped in at Warrington’s Priestley College to give readings of some of her best-known works.
She also led a workshop for students on the Enrichment creative writing programme.
Liz, appointed Poet Laureate last year, was enthusiastically received by the students, who were impressed by her passion for poetry and the energy of her performance.
Student Sam Dyas said: “Liz was amazing and inspirational.”
Liz later led an afternoon workshop for students taking part in Priestley’s Poetry Wall Project, a creative writing project for this year’s Cultural Olympiad.
In the workshop she engaged with students about their work and offered support and feedback.
Creative writing student Dan Murgatroyd said: “The opportunity was invaluable. She broke down pre-conceptions of poetry and gave us honest, practical advice about how to improve our own work.”
The college is hoping to tempt Liz back next year
