A MAN and a woman were taken to hospital at Warrington after fighting off three thugs who forced their way into their home.
The raid was on a house in Hughes Avenue, Orford yesterday (Wednesday).
Detectives are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary, which took place at about 11.20am.
Three men knocked on the door, confronted the occupant and then forced their way into the house.
A struggle ensued between the men and the two occupants of the house – a man and a woman – and the offenders fled the scene on foot empty handed.
The couple suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. The man suffered a broken nose and cuts to his face, hand and arms and the woman sustained bruising to her head, shoulder and arms.
They were taken to Warrington Hospital to be checked over but were later released after treatment.
DC Nat Lewis, who is investigating the incident, said: “To have your home invaded in this way is a frightening experience and we are committed to doing everything we can to trace those responsible.
“We take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and are currently carrying out a number of lines of enquiry in a bid to trace the offenders.
“The incident took place in the morning in a residential area and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, or has any information, which might assist with our enquiries, to get in touch.
“We would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or may have seen the offenders fleeing the scene to come forward.”
The three offenders are described as slim and were wearing black masks – possibly balaclavas – and yellow high-visibility vests or jackets.
Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or, alternatively, the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
