The incident took place on Friday, March 23, at a Co-op in Knutsford Road.
At around 9.40pm two men entered the store just before closing time.
They were both wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. One man was carrying an axe and the other man a hammer.
One of the men jumped over the counter, threatened the staff and demanded they open the till. He stole a quantity of cash while the other man kept guard by the door.
Both then fled the scene on foot along Knutsford Road, heading towards the town centre.
Detective Sergeant Gordon Wilson said: “There were two members of staff in the shop at the time. They were not injured as a result of the incident but were left extremely shaken by their ordeal.
“We are appealing for anyone who has any information in relation to the robbery to contact us immediately. We are urging anyone who may have seen the offenders fleeing the scene or has any information in relation to their movements following the robbery to get in touch.
“Even the smallest amount of information can be useful.”
The first offender was wearing dark clothing including a black jacket, which had the hood up, he was around 5ft 9 inches tall and was wearing a balaclava. The second man was also wearing dark clothing including a black jacket and was also around the same height. He was not wearing a balaclava but the bottom part of his face was covered.
